Got everything sorted (handbrake, abs) to get through the mot expect for a leaky seal on the rack (centre not the ends). The garage tried a bottle of seal leak repair but hasn't made much if any difference. When they turn the wheel back and forth there's a drip that appears after a minute or two.

Any ideas how I can sort this? Or where I can get a replacement rack that doesn't cost the earth?

thanks

i'm i wrong but didnt think this was a fail for leaking a bit unless it affects operation on the steering, i had landrovers fora while they leaked loads never failed mot because of this.

Hmmm......Previous test, mine didn't fail on the rack leak, last test - it did yet it was leaking less!! Not much of an answer, I know.

What does concern me is you must have one hell of a leak if it's half-filling a boot (enough to appear outside) in the time you're saying. I left mine up in the air for a few days and only saw a dribble.

Another difficulty you might encounter is getting new rack boots if you need them - on the Explorer, they're mahoosive!! I ended up getting a pair brought back from Canada as my other half was over there on a short trip. Nobody that was open over Christmas ans New Year had any that would fit though apparently Bailcast do (Google them) but they weren't open.

I used Lucas treatment fluid in mine (basically red treacle!) and it seems to have sorted it. Time will tell!

If you really do need a rack, Google that too - they're about £195.00 but they're a ***** to fit by all accounts. I only found one place in the UK that had them - can't remember the name unfortunately.

Good luck,

Was MOT'd again today and passed, used Lucas in it a week ago and appears to have helped. Will keep an eye on it over the next few months and see how it holds up.
