Power Steering

Pardon me if this question is somewhat silly but I dont have experience with cars and seems that when I ask friends or co-workers everybody has different answers so I get more and more confused.

Well I got a 1999 ford explorer xls and the problem is that makes a whining sound from the power steering (like many fords) in any wheel position turning or not turning so I was wondering if changing the power steering pump is going to solve the problem or Its something that I have to live with as long as I have my truck.

This is a very common problem.
I solved noise by draining the old power steering fluid and refilling with Valvoilne full synth.
It made the noise go away and it actually steers better.
I would try that before spending the money on a new pump.
