Hi there,

1999 Explorer Sport
Never hd a problem with the PW's before, but today when trying to bring the window down, it stopped about 1/3 of the way down. I pushed the button again and it went all the way down.

I can see streaks on the outside of the window, which indicates to me that it might be 'sticking' on something on the way down. It doesn't have the ame problem going up.

I tried spraying the window with WD40 (to get some in there) and bringing it up and down, but it hasn't really helped.

Any suggestions? Do I need a new window? Door? PW Motor?

Thanks.

Try taking the door panel off so that you can lubricate the scissor lifts. I had a drivers side window that would stick on its way down. I had to push on the back corner to get it to go down. After getting the door panel off, I noticed that it just needed some lube. I used white lithium spray.

thanks

I will give that a try when it's a bit warmer out.....I definitely notice the back corner being the part that holds it up

never taken off a door panel before, but I've got the book, so I'm hopeful I can do it properly.

Thanks again.

Removing a door panel is pretty simple. There are just two screws above the door handle that you have to remove. Then there's a plastic insert that's clipped in around the door handle. Pop that off... most of the door panel is held on by christmas tree clips and the top slides into a grove near the window... not much to it.

I had a window stick and release shudder like after I bought my Ex Sport. Took it to the Stealership (under Warranty) they greased the hell out of it, That didn't fix it. Finally they took off the door panel. It was a Rivet in the scissor lifts. They installed a new rivet, fixed it just fine. But Now my window is greased up all over.

Moral: Don't take the Short way out, Fix it for real. Oh and Stay away from the Stealership.
