Well, I got my powerdyne back from the rebuild shop (www.928motorsports.com) a couple weeks ago, and it was working well ($700 bucks later) and on my way to work today, the bearings failed once again.....so back to the shop it goes.

I just have to say....THIS REALLY SUCKS!!!

Thinking I should have gone with the Explorer Express Eaton one, but I think the Powerdyne would produce much more HP overall.

Wow, that sucks--
There must be a reason they failed--what does the rebuild shop say?

edit-
is there any wobble or play in the belt system?A slightly eccentric pulley might do this--

like I said ditch the thing and get the oil lubed upgrade, or just buy the rebuild kits off ebay :D

I only put 214 miles on it, wondering whether there might have been a bum bearing. At least this time, when I took it off and spun it manually, the impeller wasn't hitting the shaft.
I shipped it back today, gots to wait till Thursday for it to get to the rebuild shop. Hopefully it is an easy fix, and I will have it on the road quick as it is my daily driver.
One note though is I removed the belt at work at lunch and drove home w/o the blower running, and gee, w/o the blower, the truck is a real whimp. I am so used to the power of the blower that w/o it it is a noticable difference.

Update

I must start out with saying:

While my SC was out to the repair shop, I bought a flex tube and connected the MAF to the TB so I could at least drive the truck, and I must say, what a dog. I was so used to the difference in throttle that driving it unblown was almost pathetic. but anyways

I sent the unit back to the shop, and they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong, so in conversation with the owner, based upon my situation and use of the blower, they changed the bearings from the tight racing ones to the stock bearings. Since it is my daily driver the stock bearing appear to me more robust when it is cold out. We believe that the cold may have had a factor in the race bearings going very prematurely. (plus he didn't want to send it back to me not doing anything to the unit when it definatly was defective)

so....the unit is back and installed and I am (so far) happy.

Reserved50, I think your right going with the oil lubed one as the unit granaded again today, this time it locked up.

Off it goes to the facility again, but it is really becoming a PITA

I am almost tempted to throw the towel in and just remove all reminents of the SC, but it is too much fun to drive when it's running good.

Will see what happens when the facility receives the unit Monday and they can go over it with a fine toothed comb.

:fire:

Dump the Prodyne and get a Pro-Charger & support the loacal economy :D

I'll sell you my brand new 0 mile unit with stock pulley :D, (its not the oil lubed one though)

Dang man. This sucks.

Im doing the same thing with ring and pinions. I just had one ware down with 314 miles.

dont know what they go for, I guess whatever ebay has them for on a new unit or new Powerdynes price with 25% off either, whatever works out less. MODEL BD-11A. I might need your old pulley though, PM me if you're interested

UPDATE:
Well, My SC is finally on my way back to me. Turns out that the input shaft was bent, thus causing the bearing(s) to get chewed up. This might have been caused by me tightening up the belt too tight.
Just wished it was found before I shelled out $375 in overall shipping costs for expiditing to and from. :(

Going to tighten the belt just enough and call it a day. I did snug the belt up the night before the unit died, so it appears that may have caused the failure.

off i go to fill the truck up with some super at $3.60
the price I pay for performance......

It sounds like the actual root problem was found and fixed this time. Those BD-11 internals to fail on occasion but not that often! Glad to hear you got it fixed.

If you ever have any further problems with that thing then don't screw around with going to a totally different supercharger system. Get the XB-1A head unit and be done with it. It will be allot louder than the BD-11 as it is a geardriven supercharger (straightcut gears too!). If you ever decide to get serious with that thing then the XB will be the way to go for the future.

Well the XB-1A will not be manufactured. Powerdyne was bought out by another company and there are no plans to continue production on them.

The new company supposidly will only build head units, not kits.

Well, installed the SC this afternoon, so far so good. Was adding up my bills and looks like I spent $1400 between the first rebuild, shipping, and a new impeller shaft. Thinking I could have bought a new one for that price.
Wish their inspection found it on the first go around. :(

Next up is to take some compression checks, there were ALLOT of metal shavings in the tubes from the last incident :(
Hope a rebuild is not in the near future.

Hmm, too bad. Powerdyne REALLY screwed up when they started out offering the BD-11 first and then the XB-1A. They got a bad rep as a company that sells cheap (not read inexpensive) superchargers. When that happened they never had a chance to even try to compete with other companies like Vortech, Paxton, Procharger or the like with their XB-1A supercharger series. Really too bad as the XB-1A was a great supercharger! Then after established then they should have came out and offered their BD-11 kits as a less expensive alternative for those looking for more power but not really serious about making big power. Oh well, you live you learn.
