i have the sony hu CDX-FW700 and i cant find out what is the preamp voltage whether its 2 or 4 volts

The voltage shouldn't really matter as far as setting the gain. Turn the volume all the way up and turn the gain all the way down. Turn the gain up til you hear distortion and then back off a bit. Primitive but very effective. I have done the same for the last 20 yrs and have never blown a speaker. It must work.
