I had a vibration from 45mph+ for a few days. I checked the tires assuming one threw a weight and the front passenger has wavey tread is the best I can explain it, I figure that the culprit but couldn't afford a new tire so kept driving it. It got worse and worse to the point it was like going over the rumble strips on the highway all the time. I finally stop being stupid and look under the truck, the drive shaft is being held on by 1/2 a bolt. 1 is missing, 2 have backed themselves out so they're hanging on by 3 - 4 threads and as mentioned there is one half way out. I tighten them down, smack myself in the head a couple times. I kept checking them every week to make sure they were tight and they've stayed in thus far.
My problem is now I have a slight vibration and I don't think it's the tire. It gets worse when I take my foot off the gas to slow down, goes away for the most part when I'm accelerating. It's a 40mph and hour up kinda vibration, not horrible to live with but annoying never the less. I checked the output shaft on the transfer case and it has some up and down play. The u joints which were new 20k miles ago seem fine, no real play there. Everything is bolted up tight under neath. Also the out put shaft on the transfer case leaks a very little bit of oil, not even like a drop coming out it's just wet with transmission fluid which I changed out and added synth at the same time the u joints and transmission for that matter were changed. Should there be no play in the transfer case output shaft? Could I have screwed something else up inside? Is this my excuse to goto a 4406 since I have a 4405 currently on the rig?
