Me and my buddy are trying to install a set of 06 mountaineer taillights into his 04 Explorer, and we ran into a problem. We cannot get the lights to fit into the truck. We read on here that there is some metal that needs to be bent but we are not sure which piece and where to bend it. If any one has done this please show me where to bend it in these pics.

Thanks in advanced.

Search it...I remember within one thread that talked about the 4th gen lights, there was a picture that showed exactly what you needed to do step by step.

We have been searching for a while and I donlt see any post with pictures that shows what was needed to be bent. They just said bend or cut the body but which part in the picture.

It is at the top of the "hole"...I did some searching, and the pictures may have been deleted that showed exactly what it was. Basically when you go to put the light in, you will notice where the top socket hits...the you bend that little lip (the part that is hidden by the light anyways) back just enough to get the light in.

We were bending a part at the op but it didn't seem to be going in right...it looked like it was hitting the top and bottom. If those pictures were still available that would be great because like I said we have been doing a lot of searching and could not find them.

Nobody else? I have the lights in however the two tabs that go into the body do not hold up very well. I bought some little rubber groments to try but they don't seem to work as well as the retainer clips that are on the factory lights. Any ideas on how to keep those in better?

OK I got the lights in. The problem I am having is that the bottom part hangs over the bumper about a half inch. The top fit in fine for me and the sides are good but the bottom is giving me problems. I know that a few people said that there was a piece of metal on the top that had to be trimmed or bent but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I also had my buddy try to put these in on his 06 explorer but he had the same problem. Also for those who may have tried this what did you use for the two pegs on the back. On the stock one it had a screw that went into a retainer clip but there are no clips in the holes that line up with the new lights. I do not want to be driving and hit a bump and have to worry about them falling out.

the mountaineer taillights sit lower than the explorer teils i tried to put a explorer taillight in my truck when i broke mine and i noticed the explorer taillight leaves about an inch gap on the bottom. you ether need the mountaineer rear bumper or will need some fab work on the rear bumper. but if he doesnt want them ill buy em haha they will fit my mounty:salute:
