Problem please HELP!

I've got a '91 EB with the JBL Premium stereo. When I got it, I rewired a new stereo into it and used an amp. Well to wire the speakers I just tapped into the speakers leads in the door channels on either side that was wired to the amplifier that used RCA cables from the new deck. Now that I'm selling it I'm trying to put the old stereo back in it and it won't work. The subwoofer works and the radio comes on, but there is no sound out of the speakers. Any of them. We think it might be because we never disconnected the premium sound amplifier and it might have backfed into the amp and blown it, but the fuse is still fine for it. Other than that I can't think of what it might be. There is the slight chance that the radio that had been sitting for a year is kaput. IF anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I leave pretty soon and didn't think this would be a problem. Thanks a lot.

it sounds like the factory amp is cooked.
it's a common problem.
i've had factory radios sit around for years, and they still worked.

If the factory amp was cooked would the sub still work? And what can I do about replacing it or something along those lines? Because I need something in it to sell.

there are two factory amps. one is for the door speakers, and the other is for the subwoofer.

your best bet is to get a really cheap aftermarket tape deck that puts out power (unlike the factory headunit). then it wont need the amp to drive the speakers.

i know wal-mart sells a cheap tape headunit for $15. it's a Power Acoustik.

If I put in another aftermarket desk, then I need to bypass the factory amp don't I? So I need to buy those JBL wiring harnesses for my car. But then I wouldn't have the subwoofer either would I?

you can bypass the full range amp and still use the subwoofer amp as long as you run the power and signal wires to it. the sub amp gets its power and signal connections from the full range amp.

I'm looking into alternative methods. Is there any way to replace the factory amp with an aftermarket that would do the same thing? Cheap though. maybe something from radio shack. Is there any way to buy another factory amp? I"m really trying to keep the stereo stock without losing the factory sub either or the factory deck. If you have any ideas on what to do to keep it semi-intact I'm all ears.

you could check www.ebay.com for a factory amp. that's the only cheap place you'll find one. most factory equipment is expensive.

Yes you probably damaged the factory amp. I am surprised you did noy damage your other amp doing that.
