Problem with brakes

For some reason my brakes rattle when i brake. could it be that i bought the wrong brake rotor because i have ABS and im thinking maby i bought the rotor for brakes without ABS. Any suggestions would be more than helpful. thanks, Jared

Doesnt sound like an abs problem

I don't think that there is any difference between rotors for abs vs non-abs (I could be wrong, but functionally the abs system is the addition of a hydralic pump to modulate pressure and electronic sensors to sense wheel rotation plus a computer to make it work) If you have an abs malfunction, you should get a warning light.

I would check to make sure the brake calipers are attached correctly and that the caliper pins can slide the way they are suppose to. Also check the runout (side to side movement) of the rotors to see if they are within spec. I once installed new rotors on a Ford Ranger that I got from Kragen and they were horribly out of true. I had to take them off and get another set.
 






also check to see if something could be making contact with the dust shields, that might make a rattling noise
 






The only differnce in the size of the brake rotor comes from the gear ratio in your axle(s).
The "brakes" only rattle when you are braking?? That seems a bit odd... Maybe if you gave more detail, I could help more.
 






Anyone have an idea how to get the rear rotors off my 98 EB.

I've tried, in this order, rubber mallet, ball peen hammer with block of wood, liquid wrench, 5 lb. sledge with block of wood, ice on hub/torch on rotor.
 






gorilla....not true.... the front on a dana axle will have to have known what the axle ratio is, but a truck with abs and a truck without do have differences in the rotors...when i ordered my fronts, i had to make sure that i had the rotors for abs, as there is a machined in ring that is used as the sensor for the abs (it is gearlike) and the non abs trucks dont have it... (they also cost $30 more for the abs ones)

The rear rotors should slip right off once the caliper is removed. If they have never been off, there will be some retainers on the studs on 2 or 3 of them.
Just break these off. If they are stiil tight, then you may need to back off the park brake adjusters. There is a slot in the backing plate just like a regular drum brake setup.
 






Man dont forget to make sure the ANTI RATTLE clips are in there holding the pads in tight. Without those little suckers (Midas must have these all over their floor, as they never re-install them) the pads will rattle like crazty in there and cause noise and vibration....

Flippin crappy brake job places, all they do is rip people off! Well most of them, there is a Just Brakes here in town that actually did a really good job on a CRX for me....I do all my own brakes now.....

Dude, you are talking about rear brakes, these guys are talking about the Dana 35 front brakes.....two totally different animals....
 






Yeah, I meant to reply to phfeldmann's post regarding getting his rear rotors off. It's just that jimabena74's post was right after it and since I wasn't paying close enough attention I thought that phfeldmann was the original poster and since phfeldmann's is a '98 Jim's reply didn't apply to him. Now that I have reread it, I see that Jim wasn't replying to phfeldmann but to gorilla instead. That's what happens when you try and rush through your answers while at work.

Anyway, to answer phfeldmann's question: the rotors should slide right off. If the parking brake is pressing against the insde of the rotor (whether it be because the brakes are set or just too tight) the rotor will be very difficult to get off. There is nothing else holding it on once the retaining clips (if there at all) are removed, the parking brake is released and the caliper is removed.
