Just recently I noticed a musty smell in the interior of my explorer, the truck sat for about 2 weeks while my wife was on vacation and after that is when I noticed the smell. I was messing aorund trying to find a water leak and I noticed that the fabric on the sunshade of the moonroof was coming off which struck me as odd. So I was looking around the moonroof and I noticed that with the roof closed all the way I can move the moonroof up and down with my hands, it looks like its sitting too low into the actual roof and maybee I am getting a water leak through there, I also have noticed that annoying rattle everyone is talking about, its been like that for a while only when going over big bumps but now is getting worse, but I always thought it was the sunshade. Guess I was wrong. I have searched the forum but I can't find the exact answer I am looking for, can I adjust a roller or linkage and tighten up the moonroof? I am thinking that the drain tubes might be clogged as well because I am pretty sure that seal around the glass is just a dust seal and the water is supposed to drain through into the tubes and out through the bottom of the "A" pillars, but I may be wrong. Any help would be great. Jack

No one knows anything about this? I just looked at it again and it looks like someone tried breaking into the truck through the moonroof by pushing it down, the driver's side of it is lower than the pass and I can push it up and down, so now I have to figure out how it all goes together to see if I can fix it hopefully without having to drop the headliner.

according to the truckcd (96), you don't touch the headliner, to remove the glass panel. You fully open the glass panel, then there are four screw holding the track / panel.

Position the roof sliding outer glass panel to the full open position.

2. Remove four screws from U-channel.

3. Close the roof sliding outer glass panel.

4. CAUTION: Use care not to damage U-covers, or scratch paint with U-cover ends.

Disengage right and left rear U-cover ends.

5. Remove RH and LH side covers.

6. Remove six screws (three each side) retaining outer glass panel to roof sliding panel housing (502C22).
7. From outside of vehicle, lift roof sliding outer glass panel from vehicle.

Your problem appears to be that they bent one the arms (at the back) which is used to position the glass for the seal when closed.

on the lift arm "stuff".

1. Remove roof sliding outer glass panel.
2. Using the roof sliding panel switch (15B691), move guide bracket rearward until lifter pin is at the top of curved slot in lifter arm.

3. Pull lifter arm off guidance ramp retaining pin. Slide out of roof sliding panel rail guide.

4. To install, reverse removal procedure.

5. Check sliding roof panel motor (15790) for synchronization and adjust. Install roof sliding outer glass panel as outlined.

Hope it helps.
