First off, the problem I'm having with my stereo is one speaker randomly not working. I have not yet been able to reproduce the problem, it just happens randomly.
My equipment is the standard HU with 2 Kicker CVR 10's and a Sony Xplod xm-1252GTR amp.
The speaker that goes out is always the same one. I had the sub box and amp installed by Circuit City because I had never messed with this stuff before. I have taken it back to them and they claim they can't do anything because the 3 times I've taken the truck there the problem wouldn't occur. The stereo did get to a point a few weeks ago where both subs would go out together. It was at this time I decided to try to have a look at the wiring myself.
The only problem I ran across was the fuse "box" under the hood between the battery and the amp had one side melted pretty bad. I bought a new one, cut the old one out and cut off the burnt wire and reconnected it all how it was except this time using a 50 fuse rather than the 40 CC installed. This time I also used some 550 cord to keep the box away from hot objects rather than let it float around freely under the hood (which I assume is what caused the melting).
After doing that I was back to the one lone sub going out randomly still. Note that they have not both gone out together since then. A guy from a local audio shop suggested I may not have the right amp for the speakers I use and that may be the problem. He suggested I bridge the amp and if it blows a fuse I have the wrong amp and if it doesnt, "rock on". I got a 2nd opinion on this idea and tried it out. For about a half a song it would sound great then all go out, yet not blow any fuses. So I unbridged it and figured I had indeed bought the wrong amp. My only problem wiht this "wrong amp" idea is that it certainly worked well for about 8 months before it went "wrong".
So here I am now with one sub still randomly going out. Can anyone give me an idea of what to check or look for or do I indeed have the wrong amp?
