k you know when you change from P to D. you press the brake and it allows you to actually PRESS the button to change gears. well sometimes i press the brakes, IT DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO CHANGE GEAR! its scary cuz when at a stop light, i was trying to reach for something, so i put my car in park.

THEN i couldn't get it out of park, so i panic and eventually it gives in.

anyone got this problem?

you need to depress the brake before you try to pull the release on the shifter to move the tranny from park to reverse or drive. If you do them at the same time, the switch does not seem to work.

that is what i do. press brake, wait then pull the gear.

its like the part that is suppose to release when you press the brake doesn't disengage!

There is a TSB for this.

For future referance. If you pull up on the rubber liner in the bottom of the cup holder there is the manual shift lock release.

I have the same exact problem with mine. I'm going to take in in soon to get fixed. Have to press the brake and try it a bunch of times. Letting off the brake and trying again helps too. It's just annoying!

Mine was in 3 times for that. They finally replaced the brake safety switch, alot better but still does it once in awhile.

I've had my wife's '06 EB V8 in twice for this problem. The first time, they replaced the brake switch/stop light assembly - it apparently wasn't activating when the brake was depressed. This seemed to fix it, but the problem came back within a month or two. The second time, they replaced the entire shifter assembly - so far, so good.

Just glad it's under warranty - I'm beginning to think an extended warranty would be a good idea if I decide to keep this one...

I am also having this issue and will be going in soon as i am @ 32k miles...

I have a 2006 EB V8 w/ 16,000 miles and developed the same problem 2 weeks ago. This happened for the first time, incidentally after towing my boat several hundred miles (not sure if related). The shifter assembly was replaced, under warranty. So far, so good. I hope that this is the fix

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Also glad it's covered under warranty.

mine is at dealer today for the shift interlock and the rough downshift... hope they get it this time :rolleyes:

Had the same problem with mine. I found it to be intermittant contacts on the microswitch mounted to the side of the shifter assembly. I sprayed some De-oxit contact cleaner into the switch plunger and it's been fine since. Remove the top of the console and the switch is mounted on the right side. Carefully remove the switch and turn it over. Spray some good contact cleaner into the plunger and you should be good to go for awhile. Maybe Ford has improved the newer switches.

OK $1700 later (warranty coverage) the shifter and the "Mechatronics" were replaced per testings and TSB's and so far so good!

TSB = Mechtronics 07-13-8

TSB = Shifter 07-12-9

i am glad i'm not imagining things.

i think someone should contact ford and tell them that this is an issue..

i'll probably have to go back to the dealer sometimes this week.. arghhh!!!

have the same effect when i stay at the brake while starting the engine. Seems to be a pressure problem. When releasing and hitting the brake again it works fine. Don´t know why, have doubt my dealer knows about the TSB´s over here in GE.

I have been having this issue too. Doesnt happen all the time just once in a while.

by the way what is the mechtronics that there was a tsb for?

ok the problem has been happening maybe once every 2 or 3 times i get into teh car.. i shot an email to my dealer. hopefully they get back to me asap..

Wow.

Here I was today at the dealer telling them about this same problem. I knew something was up when my warranty rental car was issued for 2 days. He played it off really well telling me that he wasn't sure of the issue but would need to look into it and that, just in case, he was going to give me the car for an extra day. Later in the afternoon, he called me and said that the part was ordered but he didn't have a description readily available (of the part).

Here I sit googling for Ford forums and staring at this entry on my first hit.

This is sad for Ford. My '06 EB v6 has barely got 6k (yes, 6,000 miles) on it and it's 13 months old. I had an '03 LX Coupe 5.0 that had 110k miles and never saw a service garage.

Explorer o' mine? What other surprises do you hide?
