I own a 93xlt 4wd 4.0L OHV , AUTO with 200k miles. My problem is when I start the truck, it either goes into the "cold idol" (1500rpm) and then after about 3 seconds, drops down to about 500rpm and just about dies or actually dies. OR it just starts up and then just dies. After starting, and about 60seconds of keeping it at 1000 to 1500rpm, it finally stablizes out and sets at about 1200 rpm. If I just put it into drive and start going it is still sputtery and is acting as though it is starved of fuel or air. After driving for a couple of miles, it stablizes out and drives normal. Occasionally it will just start fine and idol fine. Any suggestions as to what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Sounds like classic idle air control valve issues..

You can try cleaning the IAC instead of replacing it. That may work.

i cleaned mine but only made it worse. that piece of metal is way overpriced but its worth it

:D But it is made in the USA, so it's an American Idol Air Control Valve.

where is the idle valve?
