Ok, I put a new CV axle shaft in the driver side of my '97 and now when the suspension is at full droop from being on the jackstands the CV joints will bind and not allow the axle to spin. I can jack up under the ball joint to compress the suspension a bit and then it will spin free. It could spin free at full droop before installing a new shaft.

Is this normal?

Also, the shaft didn't want to "pop" in, so I hit the end of it with a hammer to force it in. Then I pulled out on the shaft and it seemed to disconnect the inner joint. I pushed it back in by hand. Is this correct or is there more involved with getting the joint back together?

.

If the new CV spins freely with some load on the suspension, I wouldn't worry- it will loosen up.

It sounds like you have the CV in correctly- the pop is when it locks in. If you want to remove the CV, you can pry between the CV and housing to pop it loose.

Thanks, I would hate to ruin my new shaft. It seemed to fit fine after hitting it in with a hammer.
