Project Starting: Magnaflow Exhaust

lol but id be willing to bet that the guy who spent 70 bucks on the same muffler would get the same sound as i did out of more than a grand lol.

Nowhere near the performance, though.

Why make the exhaust up piece-by-piece when you can buy the Magnaflow kit for less than $400?

the kit is cat back. mines an engine back. i have NO stock exhaust pieces other than the rubber hangers... in his case, its way cheaper.

Im proud to post that I finally got my exhaust done here is some pics and videos i got the magnaflow catback kit for 363.17 to my door.

will post a better video soon

-So I'm on from the intake to the exhaust. I am going to be going to pep boys to get the muffler and hopefully some parts :)
-I will be doing some measurements hopefully tomorrow morning in the auto shop, and get the parts tomorrow afternoon. I may even do some welding to get some hangers done right.
-Any tips are appreciated.
-I will keep you all updated on this. Once the muffler is on, it should be a smooth install from there out.

Little piece of advice if yours was as bad as mine you might run into the same problem. mine is an 02. The bolts by the flange the only two bolts you have to take off. mine were rusted to shyt and pretty shot. hit with wd40 and a few other sprays. I was surprised when they both came loose rather quickly. one i was able to get out the other one was corroded and falling apart and got stuck in there. 2 hours later after sawing, hammering finally got it out..i was also only on ramps so didnt have enough room to maneuver. but i had to go to pepboys and boy my own bolts, nuts, and washers to complete the setup. after that it was easy as pie i did it right in front of my house in the street bymyself..

I went to pep boys, the muffler was 72.99 (close enough to $70.00). I need to buy some hangers and possibly some pipe. I'll be welding two small pieces of pipe to the magnaflow muffler, hopefully tomorrow. I don't expect to get the muffler on until next week due to some warped rotors that were never fixed...
I ended up with the 11226 kit because it was the 2.5" ID and the 11225 was the 2.25" ID.
Here's a pic of the muffler.

Zerodevil, all that money probably went to fairly good use, seeing your videos. Your magnaflow exhaust is one of the best sounding exhaust set ups I've heard.
************************
fedyfedz, the exhaust sounds good! The cold air intake definately helps with the exhaust tone. And I want to do the same "sport" (side) exit exhaust as yours.
*******************
I can't wait to see how my exhaust project turns out. :)

Money Spent (so far):
Muffler: $72.99
Exhaust Pipe: 2.5"-2.5" 2@$2.59= $5.18
With tax that brings it to: $83.75

That thing is tiny compared to mine mine was pretty much same size as stock just magnflow...

Update:
Spent another $12.14 on 2 hangers and 2 2.5" clamps. That brings the total up to...
$95.88
The closer I come to installing it the more excited I am getting :) Can't wait to hear it start up with the new muffler!

Things still needed before I start:
Exhaust Pipe Cut Off Tool: Price: 19.99 + 20% off coupon = $16.00
2.5" Exhaust Pipe: Price: Guessing approx $20 at most.
A number of exhaust pipe clamps: Price: 2.49 ea (predicting 4 clamps need)

Predicted total:
$16.00
+20.00
+ 9.96
+95.88
-------
141.84

i think your really gonna love that 14'' magnaflow...

I am planning on getting an exhaust soon too. Can you explain the difference between getting the muffler and taking it to pepboys vs getting the whole magnaflow exhaust system vs that X Pipe dual exhaust thing you mentioned in the page before please. Thanks.

Also, the performance difference between them.

Judo,

Muffler Only - better exhaust sound / slightly better exhaust flow / minimal power gains...

Cat Back Exhaust - larger exhaust pipe / much better performance / better sound...

Did some welding today. May install it tomorrow in the auto shop.
Here's the plan:
From the 2.5" to 2.25" reducer I will redo into 2.5" pipe. From there I will go to the muffler. Thats all so far. After a while, I will finish up by going over the axle with the 2.5", but I may have Midas do that part.
**************
95.88
+9.06 exhaust clamps and 45 degree angle piece
+21.36 Exhaust Cutter
+15.00 Exhaust Pipe
-------
Grand Total: $141.30

I also found my exhaust leak. There is a moderate size crack in the pipe before the clamps (which I will be ditching)

I will try to post up a few pics when I get started on it. :)

This is just a first stage exhaust for me. I plan on doing a 2.5" exhaust from the cats to the exhaust tip. There won't be much of a performance gain like caldwell said, but combine that with the 2.5" pipe and there will definately be some gains in MPGs and horsepower.

********************
Caldwell...
the stock pipe before the exhaust clamps seem to be a 2.75 pipe or similar. My 2.5" clamp wouldn't fit the OEM pipe, so I went to a 2.75 and I think that clamp will fit.

The work is done

Well my "stage 1" exhaust is done. When I get some more funds I will finish this project. I did from the reducer back to the muffler It sounds nice. I haven't welded it yet. Here's the pics:
And for caldwell...no more factory exhaust clamps! :)

On to the next thing....a fuel tank leak :(

Here's how it sounds. It has the 11226 Muffler.

Here's the stock exhaust

Zero,

you also bought a complete kit though at a distributors price plus shipping charges i assume. dont forget that Nate is just talking about the muffler so far...

plus you have the sickest set up on the 3rd gen forum  only thing better would be an X-pipe'd True Dual Exhaust on your X w/Flowmaster Super 44's!!!

Fixed :D

Ice- Good luck and looking forward to Pics/Vids.

Edit- Seems as though I missed a page! Looks purty and doesn't sound to shabby for a sixer. Need to rev it some more and make a vid rowing through the gears!

limited! THIS IS NOT OVER!!

ice- That thing sounds pretty slick! deffinately want to get some internal and some drive by videos though, these things sounds different under load.

that sounds nice for a v6. i like it.

It has a rev limiter at 3000rpm. :( I will try to get another few videos up.

Thanks, and definately will! This exhaust is actually pretty loud. Going up the hill to my house that exhaust really overpowers the radio. The exhaust sounds just like a jeep I was thinking of buying....

Thanks!

Nate,

like Zero said, i def wanna hear what your muffler sounds like under load, and some hard acceleration...

congrats btw bud ! making good progress, its addicting lol

cant wait to see hear it with the pedal mashed

I'm thinking of getting the rest of my exhaust done by next weekend. The total should probably come up to around....$275-300.00. Cheap for a "cat-back" exhaust.
