Not sure yet. I'm thinking of the side exit, but may go with straight out back for a "stock" look.
Yeah he said $80-100 dollars over the axle. I told him I had the muffler, and I did from the muffler forward. He the asked how large of a pipe, I said, 2.5". Then he gave me the probably $80-$100.
On the mandrel or press bent...I have no clue, he never said.
And caldwell, do you still have that under the axle set-up?

For One, I don't have the money for $350 or more to spend on a cat-back exhaust. Two, I'm not buying anything for my X via credit card, cash only. And Three, I get the best experience out of my own exhaust, and knowing that I did most of the work on it. Its all about learning how to do stuff yourself and learning from mistakes so next time, the final product turns out awesome! And I've got exactly what I want on this exhaust, the muffler I want, the reducer gone, and all.For less than $400 you can have a complete, stainless, mandrel bent catback from Magnaflow with a lifetime warranty. I still do not understand what is being gained by the method you are following.
I'm going with the over the axle set-up. I was just wondering if caldwell still had that set-up. I do some off-roading, so ground clearance is what I need.I am not sure the potential gains from an under-axle setup are worth losing the ground clearance. Might make a bigger difference if you went supercharged or turbo...but I'm not sure even a mildly modified 4.6 puts out enough exhaust volume for the bend over the axle to matter much.
EDIT: it would be really interesting to get a dyno comparison between the two setups on the same vehicle

And, just incase, I'm not trying to be mean by saying any of this.
No worries, man. I am all for self-accomplishment and doing it yourself. Check out the few posts I have here; that should give an indication of what I have devoted my time to. From my perspective, you are trying to reinvent the wheel and will end up with the same cost for a system that is not stainless and probably not mandrel. HOWEVER, from a different perspective you get a 100% custom made exhaust, the satisfaction of knowing you did it, and the knowledge gained from doing it. That is certainly worthwhile; I just wanted to make sure you were aware of other options...it is all about perspective. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted!![]()
