We are getting ready to put my new 4.56 gears and aussie locker in my front dana 35 axle, today...i have looked all over and can not find what gear oil to put in and if it needs an additive???

i want to put in a decent quality and not overspend as this setup will only be on the truck for about a year i hope, but i do want to protect my investment for the future buyers of my front end....thanks...:salute:

I use regular Valvoline 80W90 from Pep Boys.

Make sure to post lots of pics while doing the install :D

thanks rangerx, the main reason i asked is with ls you run an additive??? so with a locker, and for warranty and such, i never seen any other info for the gear oil...i just wanted to make sure, again thanks...

lol, not till after you get yours in....:p:

No additive needed for a locker.

lol "you're killing me Larry":p: :D

i'llpost the picks when i put my second locker in, lol...if you wait long enough you can buy my whole setup when i sas....;)

being saturday i wasn't sure i would get a reply but aussielocker just sent me this...

As our manual states on page 4, if you are running in hot weather we recommend
85/140 gear lube. You can use any diff lube you wish and the warranty is valid.

i'm thinking i will go with rangerx's theory as i do go to the mountains too..but, would 80w90 do ok on rincon??? it is my backup dd so again, i think i'll go with rangerx...:D

need help...ring gear torque specs needed...it turns out i can't find any in the haynes book, thanks...

also, any other torque specs for the dana 35 front member would help, thanks...

i'll be reading, thank you...

new problem...got it all back together and the fill plug is a 6 point...anyone have a clue what size this is so i can go get one??? it is big like 3/4" but 6 point...

weld a nut to it ;) not many people will carry that large of a size allen/hex wrench on the trail so convert! :D

yea i know, lol...thank god i was at my shop and have a machinist by me with both sae and metric allens...i am hoping i can just swap it with a regular one tomorrow...before i can get it off the mechanic ripped off one of the extended brakelines on the front...how i don't know, he just bought and installed the other one for the other side he broke off...he asked me where this third brakeline that wasn't broken , where it went, i told him the nub on the end used to go into the front pumpkin....be nice to me cause i'm about to bury someone...;)

the older trucks have a square drive plug you can use a wrench on,there has to be a bazillion in the wrecking yards and its one of those things you can slip into yor pocket on the way out. especially if its like pick and pull and they charge you just to get in the yard.

...to this day , i still haven't found one...i have found them on different vehicles, but without the magnet...i'm not into ripping other people off though so i am still looking to buy one when i find it...thanks...:D
