ok noone knows that`s cool, I will sort it myself.

I didnt think the second generation Explorers had a proportioning valve (since its disc brakes on both axles).

the guy doing the check has never seen an ex before but when i asked him where it was he said on back axle so 2night am going to look see if there is one, i think there is and a scrapper one with guarantee will be bought. One odd part with not much information on it...........weird

I've not seen an explorer with any sort of proportioning valve on it. I have seen a pressure limiting valve installed on the master cylinder's rear brake circuit, but not a proportioning valve.

There's nothing on the rear axle except the brake lines themselves. I'd ask the person who claims the proportioning valve is bad where it's located, how they tested it, and have them show you what, exactly, is wrong with it.

as i said earlier the guy was like 17 and could not reply to me only thro his boss, as it has poured since my post i will wait till beter weather and do my ball joints, pads etc and forget this valve!
thanks for looking

I have a 94 explorer that has what looks like a pro portioning valve mounted inside the frame ( drivers side ) just by the exhaust manifold tailpipe joint. It has wiring ( abs? ) but what is weird is that a 93 and. 98 in the salvage yard didn't have this setup. They had the abs control boxes on the fender or by the radiator. The ford house quoted $641 for a new one, ( almost more than the cars worth )anybody know of this oddball

The proportioning valve is absolutely needed on trucks without ABS, to prevent locking up the rear wheels during braking when rear end has no weight loaded on it.
In US, for Explorer, because it has a dedicated ABS channel for rear axle, the valve was deemed not needed anymore. I don't know if the export versions had that valve or not, depends of local regulations.
Parking brake is a different story. Is acting on the small rear drum and is known to rust in areas with lots of salt on roads. Associated cable too.

That is an expensive thing to fix, when I got my truck, inside my drum (the parking brake) was just a solid a block of rusted parts.

PS: My Mercury Sable had 4 channel ABS and still had proportioning valve on rear, probably as an added safety feature.
