Hello everyone,
I recently sent an email to the Rocky Road Outfitters Company in Salt Lake City regarding the possibility of them manufacturing a suspension lift for 2nd Gen Sport Tracs and 06-10 Explorer that would include new shocks, springs, etc. (so lift of +2" is possible and less stress is likely to be caused by the lift, compared to the spacers available now)
The company wants to know about any interested individuals, and they would like it if someone in the Salt Lake area could bring their vehicle by the Rocky Road shop so they could get an idea of what is involved in the lift. They are also possibility interested in manufacturing rock sliders.

So, if you're interested, please say so, and if you're in the Salt Lake area and you have some time for this, please let me know so I can email Rocky Road.

Here's there site if you want to look at some of the products they already make - http://www.rocky-road.com/index2.html

Thanks!

I'd be interested in a kit with coils, shocks etc...price is a huge factor though, if it is simply coils, shocks, and some brackets, it can't be 800+ needs to be reasonable.

post up in the 2006+ explorer section too for more visibility...I am sure you will generate plenty of interest. I am in PA so I can't help out on the test rig bit.

keep me posted.

Problem is you can only go so high because of the rear halfshafts.

Alright, I wasn't sure about double posting with the 06-10 Explorer page so I didn't.
I know about the rear halfshafts, but I'm hoping possibly they'll be able to devise something to get around it, Dave Turner Motorsports obviously did - they just don't respond email with consistency.
Also, I'm not really thinking the main point of the lift would be a much greater lift, just much greater stability and assurance since you get improved shocks, springs etc.

I'm not sure about costs, most of their lifts are under $1200, sometimes as low as $400 for a 2.25" kit with shocks and springs.

Thanks again.

EDIT - On the note of the rear halfshafts, would those inhibit putting an Eaton E-locker and/or a Riddler diff cover on an open rear diff? (The ST does use a Ford 8.8 31 Spline, and diff covers and E-lockers are made for that, but nobody says much about individual vehicle application)

That Dave Turner truck had tens of thousands of dollars in fabrication and custom parts installed in order to make their long travel kit work and fit those tires under it.

As for the lift, it would have to raise the truck significantly higher than a 2" or 2.5" to interest me, and be priced under $1,200... This is because I have been quite satisfied with my $200 2.5" RoadBully kit, and with it I fitted 33" tires without problem, so I would need a lot of incentive to change out my current setup or recommend something else to others. What I'd really like to see is a 2" or so body lift, but I understand the challenges with doing this.

As for the differential, I'll have to look into that further... I never really thought about it, but I would definitely like to beef up the rear end in mine, particularly considering the trails I hit with this thing and the 40+ lbs of extra rolling mass from the wheels and tires on the rear axles alone.

I don't doubt that about your Roadbully kit; however, like I said before, part of this kit's appeal to some people, myself included, is that HD shocks and springs will be included. Roadbully's lost a lot people's confidence around here, but if your spacers works, that's great.

Also, I've been looking around at 4wheelparts.com and their axle stuff, and they have a descent amount to offer. I'm pretty sure they have stores nationwide, the one closest to me is about 1 hr away, but I'd really like to get up there and ask about the possiblity of an E-locker, 4.10 ring and pinion set, some sort of guard for my diff and maybe even some HD axle shafts.

Let me know what you find regarding the diff... Like I mentioned before, that's something I'd definitely be interested in.

Also, just out of curiosity, what did you mean by RoadBully is losing people's confidence in your area? I haven't heard much of anything at all regarding their spacers, but then again everyone I wheel with has Jeeps or Dodges.

I was told on another board that a rear limited-slip was available on the 2004 Explorer and will fit in the rear of Gen 2 Sport Tracs. I don't know what if any other lockers or L/S will fit. What I DO know is that in the deep snow we've had here, traction control sucks and it's a damn good thing my winter driving skills are good or I wouldn't be getting anywhere.

p/n 2L2Z-4026-AA if anyone cares.

Thanks.
On another note, have you tried your Firestone's in any mud? I'm going to need new tires soon and I'm thinking about getting those.

No, sorry.
On my old '05 Sport Trac I had Bridgestone REVO's and they were very good in mud for an all-terrain. I thought they wore out pretty fast though so I didn't buy them again for this one.

I'd like a mild 2" lift, just springs would be fine.. if new shocks are needed (most likely) then sure it has to be done too.. but I would expect it to be well under $1000... $250-300 for a set of springs and shocks/struts run less than $100 each..

I would be interested in it. If it is fairly cheap I will be REALLY interested in it cause I have wanted a lift for my 2nd gen since I got it but I didnt want to spend $2,000 on the four inch lift from Super lift. If it was around 2 inch I would even be happy with that.
