I was recently in an accident, and it was cheaper buying another Explorer with a blown motor than to fix mine up. I will be swapping the motor from mine into the "new" Explorer.

While I have the engine out, I'm planning on throwing in new main & rod bearings. Oil pressure is good, and there is no knock, but it's cheap insurance for later down the road. Is there anything I should check/replace while I have the motor out? BTW, I rebuilt the heads last winter.

When is the recommended interval for timing chain? There is 160k on the motor.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you're on the right track....I'm not sure of the interval for the timing chain on the OHV, but I'd definitely do it anyways, since I'd imagine it's far easier to do with the engine out of the vehicle!!

Has the camshaft position sensor and sychronizer been replaced ever on this engine? If not this would be great to do while the motor is out. It is on the back side of the motor and a pain in the rear to replace with engine in the truck.
