Pulling off the t-case!

Hey guys, I am trying to pull the t-case.. all bolts are removed. Is there any special way that it needs to be removed? I just cant get the suma ***** off

you disconnected the driveshafts right?

i've never removed the tcase completey so i'm not sure. i'll look through my CD and see if it has anything to say.

Thanks Jason. Yea, everything is disconnected. I just cant get it off! Its pissing me off.

you have to wiggle the tcase as you push backwards aslo push up a little bit

here goes again..

after you've gotten the driveshafts removed...

Disconnect the vent tube

Disconnect the shift motor electrical connector

Support the tcase with a suitable jack

Position suitable drain pan below the extension housing

Remove five bolts

Separate tcase from extension housing

Lower tcase on jack


That's what it says, just with pictures. Did you remove 5 bolts? Maybe you missed on? This is for a 99 but yours should be the same.

sure do, i didnt think the extension would leak hardly any fluid. man was i wrong but, yeah, you gotta wiggle and giggle with it some.

you can drain the tranny out of the extension housing if left open long enough

Yea, I have a haynes and it has those same steps. I have done everything, but I cant get it off. I went and borrowed a crowbar to try and pry it off. Its just freakin stuck! Thanks for the help guys, I will report back in a few.

i used a bottle jack to slightly rotate the case to get the factory gasket to break loose.

So your trying to separate it from the trans right? Maybe there's some binding in there holding everything really tight. If you've got the wheels chaulked maybe you should throw it into neutral and try wiggling the T-case a bit.

or just put it in N and bang the hell out of it with a BFH but make sure you've got glasses on incase chips of alumium hit your face

It was in neutral. It was just stuck. Pried it off, using wedges. Pics coming in a bit.

No fluid leaked out either.. Its got some weird drain built into the trans..

If you've got the wheels chaulked maybe you should throw it into neutral and try wiggling the T-case a bit.

I would hope he would have chaulked the wheels before removing the driveshafts
