WTF! this really pisses me off, because i wanted a locker installed in the front, but the 4x4 shop said that i didnt want that and it would destroy my frontend, and told my dad it would be a terrible idea to install a front locker, and you know how it goes my dad nor the 4x4 shop arent gonna listen to a 18year old kid, when i spend most of my time on this site researching!

The shop is correct. Lockers are primarily for Off-Road and in all cases behave worse than a Limited Slip while on road (with hubs locked). I would only only put a selectable locker (ARB) in the front which only locks when you tell it to. Otherwise regular 4x4 on-road use would be impossible...

BTW...Rick's Explorer has ARBs (front and rear). When He's off-road those lockers are mostly UNLOCKED. He only locks them when stuck. As soon as the obstacle is cleared he unlocks them. If he didn't it would be a pita to turn (if not impossible).

And why would you raise some hell. Did they put it in without permission or did you/your dad give them the go ahead to do the LS. I worked in a 4x4 shop and we deal with ****y know-it-alls all day and I cant tell you what a pain it is, and what a motivator it is to ignore them as much as possible. It sound like you need to ***** at your dad if he made you put it in there. Honestly, for the front a LS is probably the better choice specially if it seems light offroad and mainly street.

And a wrangler will go farther than a stock X.

im not talking about anything other then snow here guys, my truck has yet to do this on the dirt or mud, but in snow it toqure steers like a *****, now i told the 4x4 shop im in 4x4 the most when it snows, since i go upstate to ride my sled and all, it sees some deep snow. I wanted l/s in the rear and locker in the front, a locker in the front would help pull me threw the deep snow, my truck is rarely in 4x4 unless the snow gets deep or the trails get worse and muddier, with the 33" muds, rear l/s and 4.56 gears, i can get threw alot of the local trails only in 2wd just by crawling(or a light foot)..

basicly i thought of it like this rear tires push, since i didnt want a locker in the rear, i thought a locker in the front would pull me threw(without toqure steer) ...

hey i might be wrong..

hey i might be wrong..

Well, lets look into your logic here. The rear tires push the vehicle, offer no steering ability and therefore it is much less critial that they are able to move at different speeds. (A vehicle with a spooled rear or equivalent will just skid rear tire through) Front tires steer the vehicle, therefore they need to move independantly. If they dont, they basically become big ski's that just slide. (Dirt or pavement is a different story, im talking snow/ice) So it would seem to me what you did was assbackwards.

Also, what your feeling isnt torque steer. Dont call it that just because some guy on an internet board said so. Think about it, is dirt or mud as slick as ice? No. Does the LS act as an open diff until one side spins? Yes. Would it be fair to say it will lose traction much easier on slick ice then dry dirt? Yes When it does engage on ice, would that cause a sudden jerk in the steering? Yes.
