I have an 04' Sport Trac. I am having a problem pumping gas into it. In the past when shove the nozzle all the way in it won't let me keep the handle locked in position to pump gas. I have to hold it about half way. Now I can barely put the nozzle in and it keeps tripping the trigger on the nozzle. It takes forever just to put in a few dollars worth of gas. Anyone else experience this same problem?

Still having trouble... NEED HELP!!!

Hold it at an angle or try a different gas station. I have problems with older pumps at older gas stations doing the same thing, it's simply the design of the filler neck, so there isn't anything you can do about it. The newer style handles that only insert an inch or two and have a rubber seal collar around them work just fine, however the older style that insert in 6" or more do the same thing as you're experiencing, and I usually end up pumping slower, pull the handle out a little, or I've found that at one particular station I can turn it at a 225* angle (assume normal is 270*) and it will work fine  . Good luck :salute: .

I will give it a try. Thanks for the help.

No problem, I hope it helps you at all. I too know what you're feeling with this. I went to pump gas yesterday and when I put the nozzle in, I sort of cringed as it started pumping, just waiting for it to click and stop. Luckily it was a brand new gas station with new nozzles, so it was all good :D .

I took my truck into the dealership today to have it serviced. They said the vent tube from the gas tank was packed full of cob webs, thus not allowing air escape. Any one ever heard of such.

I was having trouble getting my 4 wheel to disengage on the fly. Always worked in the past. I recently put new tires on the back. Front tires weren't that worn. Was told today that the little bit of difference in tire size, will keep the 4 wheel drive from disengaging.

For part 1 - never. How much were you charged to fix that? Under warranty?

120 bucks for probably 10 minutes of work and no replacement parts. No warranty, bought if used from the same dealership two and half years ago. I believe I got the shaft.

I've never heard of cobwebs, but I have heard of it being clogged with gas from overfilling the tank, usually taking out the evap canister with it. Sounds like you did get the shaft, but then again it is a dealer  . I'll have to check mine now to make sure it's not clogged as well (it was owned by some old people who were probably like my father who always overfills the gas tank like you could 30 years ago).
