I would like to know if anyone used the X plan or used the Costco plan in the purchase of their vehicle. We are able to use either but I can't get a good explanation of where the dealer gets the price from for the X plan. The dealer says it ia a little under invoice and on a site on the internet it states that the price would be 4% over factory price. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I used the X plan but I don't remember the numbers. What I do remember is that you first register on the website and get a number. Once you get the number you take it to the dealer and they have to show you the invoice for the car that had the X plan price printed at the bottom.
 






From the website where you register to get your X-plan PIN#, you can go directly to an inventory search, by dealer, and it will show you the X-plan price. I realize you might be trying to figure out how exactly they arrive at the X-plan price, but frankly that's not very useful information. You can find the invoice price (with specific packages, options, etc.) at other websites, and of course the dealer could show you the invoice for a given vehicle on their lot, but what's truly most helpful is that website where you register. Not only can you see the vehicles in a dealer's inventory, with the X-plan price, but there will also be a link to the window sticker, so you can compare the MSRP to the X-plan price. They even have calculators that can take into account cash back incentives or special interest rates, and can figure monthly payments and so on.

I used X-plan last week for the purchase of an '07 Explorer E.B. I used the website to find the ones in which I was interested, printed the X-plan prices and the window stickers, and used that to figure out my "worst-case" deal before going to the dealership. For whatever it's worth, and assuming that the invoice price I was shown was the true invoice, the X-plan price for the vehicle I bought was $15 below invoice, if I'm remembering it right.
 






According to the paperwork the dealer showed me (and Edmund's) X-plan was roughly $100 under invoice when I bought mine last October. Basic 2006 XLT V-6 with "convenience group" package.

Actually, it looks like they dropped MSRP by quite a bit on 2007's. It seems similarly equipped vehicles are about $2000 less than last years models.

According to my ford dealer, my company's X-plan information and my friend who actually works for ford in Dearborn, X-Plan pricing is somewhat fluctuating depending on the vehicle you buy. All it really states is that you get to see the invoice price before hand, and that the price you pay is withing +/- 1% of that invoice price. However, this is only for NEW vehicles. I had a dealer try and tell me that it applied to used vehicles as well, but he was wrong and it cost him commission on a $25000 SUV when I bought my explorer somewhere else.

Definitely it varies depending on the vehicle and probably the trim level or options. In my case, it was about .4% below invoice. That is invoice X .004 = final price.

Remember 1% = .01 when used as a multiplier.
