Need advice on purchasing 4th Gen Explorer

Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for a 4th gen Explorer/Mountaineer again. Looking for any advice you can give me on what to avoid. Input on V6 vs V8 also and what kind of mpg each get would be helpful too.

for me V8 was the only option and only thing that made sense. Much more power and same or better MPG. Only downside really to the V8 is the dreaded broken spark plug change.

Stuff to look out for.
-Radiator leak
-Axle seals leaking (higher miles)
-Exhaust manifold leak (V8)

Other then that just the normal stuff to look for when buying a used car/truck
Well im sure theres more for the V6's but i don't own one so cant tell you what to look for on them.

also one thing i do is search for big threads and see what the masses are talking about.

I did a search for over 50 replies and "problem" as the word.
pretty much how i always research new cars before i switch to a new brand or model.

Same powertrain, same problems. you can add timing chains to this list for the 4.0L now. If its a V8 watch for the cam phaser.
