So I got engine code p0446 - and it's my understanding that is usually from a bad Purge Solenoid....or damaged line.... is this correct? ... Engine light came on: Took a few seconds to start instead of instant / It drove fine for a while but then later died...and struggled to stay running... this is all within a few hours.
It looks like the two connections are common fuel line connectors...correct?(yellow arrow) ....anybody know tool / size part number?
This pic is indeed Purge Solenoid Valve...correct? .....underneath battery on 4.0....

Yes that is the canister purge valve
There is also a Canister vent valve but it is located in the back above the spare tire with the charcoal canister
The 446 code points to the canister VENT, not purge.
I would drop the spare tire and have a looksee at your charcoal canister assembly and the lines to and from

There is no tool to release those fittings you basically squeeze the sides until the plastic clears over the nipple on the hose. They are a PITA to release without breaking them

Judging from the amount of rust I see in your photo, don't be surprised to find your canister bracket has rusted off and canister is now sitting inside you spar tire.

Thanks 410! ....good catch...will be checking that out soon...
And Koda.....yeah....the seller here in So Cal stated it was Southern California car it's whole life.... yeah....sure.....

Much of So Cal is next to the ocean = salt air

Hey man I messaged you directly idk if you got it or not

Hey Joshua....I did not get message...I only have basic account with "inbox"....so maybe I can't receive "PM's" ... not sure.
Anyway gang...feel stupid here...so I went to remove/lower spare tire to check out Vent canister/ hoses etc and confused about release connector....so I just see/have a gold rounded 1/4" tip inside release hole.... not sure if that's tip that got separated and stuck in there from tool...being this is supposed to have a female opening for release tool..not tip....... see pics...and please elaborate away..... GOLD ROUNDED STUB INSIDE HOLE... FOLLOWED BY RELEASE TOOL END PICS:

The end of the black rod is correct, just like my 97', (just re-installed my spare yesterday). The rod is supposed to fit into a rectangular slot to drive the cable mechanism, I dont know what that is down inside there, maybe the cable mechanism was replaced?

I guess what I perceived to be the "walls/tunnel" are the actual turning mechanism.....I just rechecked with flashlight and going on that assumption....I do NOT have that rod/tip ....that was the one piece the previous owner didn't have inside vehicle...I'll access one tomorrow.......I just posted pic I found online to support my theory why I assumed the very end would be female for this........ the "tunnel" is about an entire inch long so I was thrown by that as well... Feeling somewhat lame now... :)

I hate those spare tire winches
You have the correct piece to stick in there and turn
Lefty loosey = drop the tire

I had that code many years ago, and what I had to do was repair the wires at the canister, as the filthy mice had chewed them off. Just another thing you can check. Best wishes.
