I ordered a set of Explorer Pro Comp add-a-leaf's and I was curious about the installation. Will I need a compressor to get the bolts off? Does anyone have the instructions that they can mail to me? What is involved in doing it so I can be prepared before hand. Thanks for the help guys, appreciate any insight on this one!

A second question. I also ordered a Borla exhaust, will I need a compressor for this job as well? Thanks again guys!

Well hey, if you are looking for a reason to get yourself a compressor...then...YES YOU DO!!!

j/k..for the Borla...I didn't..just used lots of wd40 and let the engine run for a while to get the exhaust hot, wore a pair of leather work gloves and the spring bolts came right off w/no problems! I did have to disconnect the rear pass side lower shock mount and the sway bar linkage to take the stock cat-back off, or you could just take a hack saw to the old one if you don't care about keeping it!

Can't help ya w/ the add a leaf....I haven't done 'dat yet!

Tim

On the add a leaf install, Wire brush the threads and nuts you want to remove a few days before you do the work. Every day until you do the work hit them with some Liquid Wrench or what ever you use. The u-bolt nuts should come free with a breaker bar. Just cut the center bolt, it has to be replaced any way, so dont waste too much time if it wont lossen up- its under pressure and usually really rusted. I used two c-clamps to hold the spring pack together while I removed the center bolt, and used them again to reassemmble the new pack.

When I installed my cat back I just cut everything off, and replaced all of the bolts. Ive never had any luck getting exhaust fasteners loose - so i just go in cutting!!

Weapon (I mean tool ) of choice; Milwaukee Super Saws-All with a 14 TPI metal cutting blade.

If you dont have a saws-all I would buy it before a compressor. If you have the saws-all then yes you need a compressor!! For this job you mean- well maybe... but you do NEED a compressor. Its umm useful... for ... well you need one! I use mine all of the time airing up tires, running tools, blowing the garage floor clean, all kinds of things. I told my wife we needed a compressor in the garage so she wouldnt need to go to the gas station to fill her tires with air- I could do it at home for her- she thinks its great!!!

Some Liquid Wrench and big breaker bar is all you need if you don't have an air compressor.

Wise tip here. Make sure you support everything while your doing it, I learned the hard way. Those leaf springs aren't really heavy but when they fall on your hand it's not a ton of fun.

Another thing I had problems with is getting the bolt off the spring pack. Finally I just used a punch and broke the head off.

I have some awesome flex pictures I took today while out wheeling but my digital camera is acting really funny, won't download. Try to get them up ASAP.

where did you pick up your add-a-leaf kit? and what did it run you?
