any pros or cons to doing this?
i got an audiobahn with a nice chrome back to it, wouldn't mind showing it....

yes, just reverse the speaker polarity.

Wow, really, i need to reverse the poliarity?
i didn't think it would matter.
hmmm thats odd

thanks!

if you keep the polarity the same, you will notice a lack of bass. the cone will move into the enclosure when it is supposed to be moving out. when you reverse the polarity, the cone will move in the same direction it would if the sub was mounted the traditional way with correct polarity.

ah i see now

is there any problems presented if i decided to mount the sub like that... or is it just the same?
thanks for the fast replies.

ryan

no problems. you might notice a little more deep bass since your enclosure will have more airspace. it'll be like stepping up to a slightly larger enclosure.

how do you reverse polarity?

just put postive to negative and negative to postive.. not that hard... now why you want to mount your subs backerwards throws me... but o well its not my sub.. have fun.

a lot of competitions systems have the subs mounted with baskets out if the sub looks cool.

here are a couple custom installs with the subs mounted backwards:

The only problem you might notice is noise. The air moving through the pole piece or around the frame can make some noise. Most of the manufactures reverse the speaker just to show it off.

can you have two facing out and one facing in if they are all being runned off one amp (two channel bridged to one)

yes you can. just make sure the polarity is reversed for backwards subs and correct for the traditionally mounted sub.

Here's the the professionals opinions on the reverse sub thing. Baskets out is more commonly used for rock and maybe jazz. The bass might be a little tighter, but I have never heard it drop as well. If you want SPLs or dB's have em fire out. I tried the basket out and then basket in for my Alpine Type R and honestly thought the basket out sounded like poop. As for polarity, do whatever sounds better. I run my Type R with a reverse polarity (I can switch it on my deck) b/c I've found for my set up it is cleaner for stringed/slap bass, but doesn't drop has hard for rap stuff (which frankly I don't care about). Only if you have mulitple subs can this cause bass cancellation.

Wow... that sounded arrogant. By professional's, I did not necissarily mean me (I am MECP certified though), but that was the general concensus of the guys at Crutchfield (retail store)
