i have been thinking of doing this. seeings how my 98 sport sags in the rear, and i have a 00 XLT for parts, i was going to use the rear leafs off the XLT for my sport, then do a TT. what i want to know is this, will i have to get new shocks because the stock ones will now be over extended, or will the stock ones cut it. as well how many twists will i have to do to the torsion bars?

Everyone has to twist their torsion bolts differently to get a similar amount of lift. There are some cases that one of you bolts won't even be long enough for a full 2" while the other bolt has a ton of extra length. Your best bet is to just measure from the ground to a flat point on the front of the truck...

You shouldn't go higher than 1.75-2'' with a torsion twist, and your stock shocks will be fine. No need to upgrade with just 2''. They'll probably bottom out easier, but it's really not a big deal.

Like Steve said, it's tough to say how may turns you'll need. I had read about 6 or so, but when I did mine, I bottomed the bolts out with WELL over 6 turns and still didn't have 2 inches. I needed to get new bolts and crank them more to finally get the full height.

Good luck.

ok, just wanted to know. i had a b2 when i was about 22yrs old that i jacked up to the sky, but it also had just as much time in the air as it did on the ground. now i'm older wiser (and more broke then i was at 22), i really don't do much jumping anymore! i just didn't want to max the shocks out, or damage them when i go to do this

I have a 98 Explorer Sport and want to do the same thing......ive looked in on a website someone sent me on how to do the Torsion Twist, and then after i do that get like 2" add a leafs for the rear......is there any long term effect this will have, will it strain anything over a long period of time.....and has anyone done this type of lift and havent had any problems

Thanx for the link....pretty much a 123 step on how to do it.....i think im gunna go ahead with this and see how it works out.....i did have a few questions though and am waiting for response unless any one else can answer them......i have a 2wd sport so no CV join and was wonderin wut is the max height to stop at cuz if i can go over 2" i want to and do like 3" add a leafs in the rear....2nd how many turns on the torsion bolt does it take to go to 2" approx ?????????

haven't done it yet, but i think every truck is different. just grab a tape measure, and go from the ground to the bottom of your fender wheel openings.

If you go more then 2" with or without the cv shafts you run into caster/camber problems with the alignment. Any more than 2" and you will burn up the outside edge of the tires! Also, there is no standard answer for how many turns it takes. Like others were saying, some trucks take 6 and others will botom out and still not give you 2". My truck is like 1 turn from being botomed out and it only added about 1.5". Good luck!

Thanx guys got some good info now!!!!!

hey joshuaj0214, when you did yours, did you happen to notice what letter was stamped in your torsion bars?
