I drive a 1992 Explorer XLT 4X4 and I am looking for better gas milage. I know to replace the o2 sensor and for the hell of it I might throw a new fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter in as well. My question for you is would replacing the fuel injectors be a worthwhile effort. If so could you estimate cost and perhaps reccomend somewhere online I could purchase them from. Also any other recomendations would be appriciated.

Thanks in advance...

I have no idea on the fuel injectors, but use the search function and you'll find a ton on this topic, including one member, Adlive, who gets 33 mpg with his 2WD SOHC X.

I'd check the FPR before just replacing it. No sence in just throwing money at it. I'd do the normal things, like plugs/wires. Fuel injectors aren't cheap. Have you tried any injector cleaner? What is you current MPG?

Plugs: Changed them about 10k ago, wires still feel good but may change those.

FPR: I have no idea how to test it. Is it the same as checking fuel pressure over different rpm ranges like my chiltons manual says?

Injector cleaner: I use seafoam and every so often one of those "clean as you drive" addatives. Thinking of pulling the injectors anc cleaning each one individualy.

Current MPG: ~10MPG average.

Thanks alot for the replys so far.

If you don't have hard starting or strange problems, it is unlikely there is a problem with the FPR. Quick test would be to check for presence of gas in the FPR vacuum line, better would be leakdoen test on fuel rail tap. High would be 39# (idle 33#) and it should be able to hold at least 30# for 30 minutes with engine off.

Thanx, can I get a fuel pressure guage at advance auto, or perhaps NAPA, as i've determined that AutoZone is JunkZone.
