I have a 93 x with the 4.o OHV motor it has a slight ruff idle.
I have done all the normal things to fix it and it made it a bit better but not gone.

Now when checking my IAT sensor I can not get a solid reading. It’s jumping all over the place. It’s also no were near what it would be for the temp ether so I am thinking bad sensor. There cheap so it’s going to be replaced.

My question is can a bad IAT sensor cause a ruff idle and also bad MPG?

Dose the sensor not make that big of deference like say and OS sensor or an ECT sensor?

Just wanting to know for and FYI and to expand my knowledge base
Thanks

it makes the cel come on, and changes a bit of the parameters for the engine,,

i say replace, it's like $15,

Yes, an IAT sensor can cause the engine to run rough, as well as a number of other driveability issues, such as poor fuel economy. Intake air temp plays a role in several different engine parameters, including commanded air/fuel ratio and ignition timing, as well as influencing the enabling/disabling of certain emission controls.

In fact, this can be a big issue with poorly made, so called, cold air kits, when they improperly relocate, or make no provision for the factory IAT sensor.

Thanks guys I kind of figured it played more then a minor roll. I just never have read much about them or there job so kind of in the dark on them but replacing it was not an option that was going to happen any way just wanted to gain some better info to store incase I needed it .
