I have a stock 91 4x4 explorer that really needs some more ground clearence..
i have been looking at a body lift but does a body lift really give it any more clearence or do i need a suspension lift.. in looking for a kit i can install myself.. under 200 bucks... Thanks for the help in advance....

welcome to the site!

the body lift only allows u to clear bigger tires - bigger tires means more ground clearance.. so per say, no the body lift by itself doesnt help ground clearance, but a body lift with larger tires, will give u clearance.

larger tires is the only way to increase ground clearance... a body lift or suspension lift will allow the fitment of bigger tires

what do i need to do then just to get more clearence.. im running 30 x 9.50's.
i just want about 2 or 3 more inches of clearence...
thanks

actuall i have the side running boards that only sit about 11 inches off the ground... so i guess i just need more of a lift for the body so the boads dont hit.. i have had that problem on a few different times.. any sugestions what be great.. thanks

you can take the rockers off, that will make sure they dont get scraped... that will give mroe obstacle clearance, but the only way to get ground clearance is larger tires

do a 3" bl and run 33"s, that should cover all your needs.

You could do a spacer front shackel rear and get about 1.5-inches and fit your budget, and fit 31s.

however thats going to need an alignment and alignment bushings and thats usually about $150 more with install

Go to google and type in mako off road. Check out their stuff for the 91-94 expo. They have a good 2" inch lift. Front spring spacers and rear a add a leaf. Thats what I have. It was like 80$ and was pretty easy to install. Also I got a rear 1 1/4 inch schackle. Because over time your rear can sag ;) Now you will have all the room for larger tires and wheels. Also if you care about your alignment and ball joints look into some axle piviot brackets for a 2 inch lift.
