2014 Explorer Sport - Red
This is my first post, and I'm sure this info is on here, but I couldn't find it when I searched.

We are considering the limited or the sport. Is there a clear list somewhere as to what you get or can't get with one vs the other? I know the engine is the big difference. I've also tried looking on ford's website, but the comparison is a bit confusing since the packages list different things.

Thanks

Not taking the obvious into account on the Sport (Grill, Engine, 4wd, wheels, suspension) here is the answer to your question.

You will have to play on Ford Build & Price for more details.... but this should help.

The Sport 400A package (base sport) is XLT w/ a 202A package only difference in equipment is the Sony Sound which is not available in the XLT.

Now the Sport 401A adds everything in the Limited 301A package along with BLIS.

For 2014 the 3rd row was not available with the power fold in the Sport and was added with the 401A on the Sport.

The Tow package is now standard on the Sport for 2015 and HID's are still not available on the Sport (included in 302A package on the Limited)

Sport is ONLY EcoBoost Twin Turbo w/ standard 4WD (if it were 2WD the torque would make it near impossible to drive if you had a lead foot and would probably damage the body long term).

A Limited w/ a 301A package w/ optional BLIS will have the same equipment as a 401A Sport... (tow package optional on the Limited.

Hope this helped, if you have any more specific questions on options you are looking for, let me know.

So the only option I'm not able to get on the sport that I can get on the limited is the HID lights? (Provided I get the 401 package and tow package)

This is the information I was looking for. We like the performance of the sport over the limited, and what I can tell on fuelly we would only lose about 1mpg for the ecoboost vs the regular v6

Thanks for the reply. If I am incorrect with any part of this, please let me know.

No, that's not all. There is also Active Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep, Rain-sensing wipers, and possibly others.

One of the best tools to use is the Ford website where you can build and price the different models.

Apparently the slightly redesigned 2016 models will have LED headlights. It is supposed to make its debut at the LA Auto Show on the 19th.

Yes the active park assist is not available on the Sport either, however no one ever uses that anyways, either they never paralell park, or they are too scared to let the car do it. Yes I forgot about the Rain sensing wipers, but my experience on that is that when they do go on, I end up adjusting the sensitivity every time anyways, so I left them off.

If you are not looking at a left over 2014 Sport, the power fold 3rd row is not available 14's.

I agree on the Active Park Assist. In the town (Village) where I live I only used it once on the Explorer and that was just to try it out. It worked fine. As for the Rain Sensing wipers, I have that set to 'ON' all the time and it worked great in the Ex and in my current MKT. Don't have to continually make any adjustments.

As you can see, Ford has devised many ways of making a sub $35,000 SUV into a $50,000+ SUV. Choose wisely, grasshopper!
