I did a search and found most info on 2nd gen and on explorers. What are some decent wires for our 1st gens? I'm looking to replace my wires and considered just going oem replacement since I have no hefty engine performance mods, but I figured I would just check here first since you folks have all been there and done that ;). If there is already a thread on this for 91-94's, I apologize for not catching it first. Thanks again guys.

I can tell you from first hand experience that OEM replacement wires will work fine. I got the wires from Advance Auto Parts in the Summer of 05 or 06, and they've worked fine since. I change my spark plugs once a year for good measure, and each year I inspect the wires and they've looked fine for a while.

I tell you though, replacing the wires made a HUGE difference... I'm pretty sure they were the original wires, so replacing them helped A LOT.

Hope this helps,

I also suggest the Magnecor.

At least read on their site about spark plug wires before you buy anything else, it's quite informative and amusing.

I'd stay away from Splitfire and gimmicky brands.

Be sure whatever plug wires you use, to use the Motorcraft plugs.

Thanks for all the info guys. On the motorcraft plugs, I've been running autolites under the impression that they are essentially the same plug. True? Or should I pick up some actual motorcraft plugs while I'm at it, and, are double plats really necessary?

Autolite plugs aren't even close. They are okay in a situation where you busted/broke plugs and need some temporary replacements, so keep your Autolites on hand as a backup.

They've switched the name for the Motorcraft replacements from "double platinum" and "platinum plus" to something else the past few years. The design has also been improved so the electrode end is quite similar to iridium plugs.

I will only ever use the Motorcraft plugs. Buy them online, find a parts store that sells Motorcraft parts for lower prices, or call around to your Ford dealer parts departments and see who will give you a discount on buying 6 plugs, but get the genuine OEM replacements. It makes a world of difference, and eliminates a vast array of ignition problems caused by using other plugs.

Also FYI the Magnecor wires are more of a performance part, but they do offer the same benefit to a bone-stock motor they do to one with performance mods. Even good aftermarket wires do tend to make a difference, especially if you're still running the original factory wires!

Electrosports 8mm wires for $80?

Search around and you can find even lower prices, I got the KV85 wires for under $80.

Me too. I paid 79+shipping

I've always run Autolite plugs - had great results with them.

I run Jacobs wires on my '93 - great product, but I'm not sure they are still available. On my 2006, I tried JBA wires - very happy with them.

I ran Bosch plugs and wires. No issues, but I think mine were the original wires so anything would have been an improvement ;)
