As I understand you can take the vehicle to autozone and have them read the code for free. i know that much, however does the light have to be flashing when you go there? Mine flashed on me yesterday and it would not go into overdrive. At least I don't think it did. Is there a speed limit you have to get above to notice when you actually push the button and see the rpm drop? At any rate I have had the truck for approx 2 days. So I think now the owners knew of this yet decided to see if it came on during a test drive or not. The light has not come on today and all shifts fine. Hopefully it's minor but you never know. The truck is a 2001 explorer sport trac 2wd. It also has a slight shudder when you barely hit the gas and are turning. I think it might be tires. It only happens at extremely low speeds like under 5 mph. Any help would be appreciated.

have the codes checked immediatley, the light does not have to be on for codes to be stored in memory

flashing OD light is NOT GOOD it points to transmission issues

while the OD light is flashing the transmission is in default mode and driving it like this can cost you a new transmission

It also has a slight shudder when you barely hit the gas and are turning.
I think that's a design feature of Ford Explorers.
Both of my Explorers do that. I just ignore it.

But the OD light flashing? That's a nightmare I have yet to experience. Knock on wood.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll get to a autozone and have the codes read asap. I'll update when I recieve them. Look forward to browsing the forums and hangin out here!!

Hey !sportrac!, did you ever figure the issue with the check engine light with transmission problem and the shutter? I'm have the same exact issues right now.

whitch way do you turn the allen screw on the epc to increase trans line pressure?

my trans light did that right after I attempted to pass someone and some gears decided to go, limping it home in first sucks

hate to break your heart, i had same problem, i think this is because i ran my truck for 50,000 miles without servicing my tranny, lotta metal shavings when i took it apart, i ended up buying used tranny for it, been running fine since,
if you google it you'll see about 200-300 people posting same problem, xd gl

ok same problem but diff side effects. my light is flashing and there is NO check engine light on. I took it offroading today and when we went to leave i would not shift out no matter how much power you forced through 1st gear. took it to autozone and they couldnt help cuz the scan came back clean. went to wash it all out today and now it wont or will barely take reverse. HELP ME!!
