Hi,

I'm currently looking info for my father in law. He's looking to buy a 2010 Ford explorer Sport Track 4wd xlt with the 4.0 engine.

The main reason of the buy is for towing his snowmobile in a closed trailer during the winter and 2 golf bag during the summer. And the usual 7min drive to work 5 days a week.

So as you see nothing too fancey there.

do you think the 4.0 engine would be adequate in his situation?

I read that sometime the v8 would be easier on gas but as a daily drive I doubt that.

thank in advance,

Richard

A bit more information about the trailer (size, capacity, weight - if you know it) could be helpful, but it sounds like the 4.0 will be fine. That's assuming your father in law isn't too picky about slow acceleration (with and without the trailer).

I'll try to get the trailer info, but hey! he's currently using a Pontiac montana to haul his snowmobile, so anyhting is an upgrade :P

He should be fine with a V6. I have the V8 and love it. Love the engine tones. First V8 and it wont be my last that is forsure!

Don't waste your time/money with the 6 cyl. I have had this engine in a Ranger before my ST, and because it is ancient the fuel economy is the same or worse than my V8, and there is a big performance difference. When I bought my ST, the price difference was under $1000, and definitely worth it. Finding a V8 now is another story...

Agreed- if you can find a V8 ST, get it. The economy is a wash, and the drivetrain is just much better. Not that the V6 is bad, but the V8 is awesome.
