ok someone told me i could put coil springs on my 2wd 97 explorer and it could lift it up to 3 inches. what exactly to coil springs do? and do they make them for front abd back or is there somehting else out there i can use. please respond

Please don't double post

Your '97 does not come stock with any coil springs. The only thing you can put on that resembles coil springs is the RCD Coilover Kit which you will find a whole thread on at the top of the "Suspension Forum".

Because you are 2WD, you can use lift spindles, which will give you and 3" in the front. Try a search for spindles.

I am not sure i understand what your saying but your 97 does not have coil springs anywhere. You have leaf springs in the rear and torsion bars up front. If you wanted to lift the front of your 2wd X you could crank up your torsion bars all the way and could get about 2-3 inches of lift in the front. That you could do yourself and then you could buy some Warrior shackles and an add-a-leaf for your rear leaf springs and that would lift the rear about 3 inches. This is something that you could easily do yourself. Hope I answered your question.
