'00 XLT 4x4 V6
I have read the quest for 30 thread, but I have some questions about some things. I have a 00 Explorer XLT 4x4 SOHC V6, I have already changed fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, removed roof rack and get around 17-18 mpg avg mix highway/city driving.

So how many more mpg can i expect by getting :
1. Air intake system (kkm or K+n I dunno which is better)
2. Synthetics (will do this anyway, not sure what weight i need etc.)
3. Air Dam
4. Cat back exhaust
5. wing/rear spoiler

I try and keep my rpm under 2500, I tried 2000 but all the tourists flip me off.

air dams and spoilers arent going to make a noticeable imrpovement in economy.. the mileage you are getting seems about right. you must realize you are driving a 4500 pound truck..... the stuff you listed above might help out economy, however it could hurt also... i realized when i got my exhuast done on my explorer, i loved the sound, so i buried the throttle all the time to hear it growl, and raced a bunch of people too, because they thought i had some insane huge engine under the hood.....

like jimabena74 said, your suppose to get better gas mileage with a exhaust system, but if you can keep driving the same way - then you'll be okay. The intake and exhaust mods will work well together. The computer chips also can increase mileage.

look up doug904 if going to go with a chip/flasher

The mileage each of the above gives will be very difficult to predict since the overall mileage gain is from a synergistic effect of all of the above.

I run 0w30 Amsoil Series 2000 oil.

The KKM is just a filter and MAF adapter whereas the K & N as well as MAC and others are complete intake tube and filter systems and in my opinion are much better ( yes, I have had both and use the MAC now ).

Good luck in your own quest ....

dont overlook tire pressure :)

Lower and lighten it. Strip out every bit of "extra" material you might have, like carpet and sound deadener. Underdrive pulleys could help a bit, also.

Lowering did not have any significant effect on mileage on my '99; only a horrible ride quality.

If you also take out the 4wd (front axles, pumpkin, transfer case), it will help milage and get rid of alot of weight. If I am not mistaken ALdive is 2wd, not 4wd, so he doen't have the extra weight in the truck.
