Hey guys, quick question,

Ive been looking into different lockers for the front diff on my v8 mountaineer, and i have a question for those that have one
I do know that i could have issues running a locker in the front becauee its an awd truck, but i i am in the process of putting together the parts for a borg warner 4406 swap, so once the swap is done and i have selectable 4x4 will i be ok with the locker in the front, because power wont be applied to it unless i am in 4x4, or will the fact that the front driveshaft will still be spinning due to the lack of locking and non locking hubs be a problem.

I might condiser a 96 or 95 4x4 explorer front diff if its needed but thatll be down the road.

Thanks guys
Andy

It's a live axle so a locker will cause the same problems no matter what, now a limited slip won't or something like a Aussie locker or sparten would work OK.

BOOM!

The transfer case in an all wheel drive is full time. Installing an automatic (non-selectable) locker in the front differential will place an amount of stress on the front end that cannot be handled. There will be broken parts. A locker and a T-case from an F150 would be a better option. You'd also get a low gear in the T-case.

Yeah-if you read the original post that is the plan

To the OP
Unless this is an off road only vehicle, I would stay away from a front locker. If you will ever need to drive on a slick street, you'll see why. Front and rear locked does very screwy things on a snowy-icy road. Over 35 MPH is very scary.

Just my .02
