I recently replaced my plug wires with new factory wires, I was told you need the clips at the end of the wires that connect to the distributor or that end would come off, is this true? I also hear a lot of people here use aftermarket wires do they have the clips on the end? or was I just lied too Dead Link Removed

also I read in several post that 8mm wires are good, aren't the factory wires 8mm?

just curious

A while back I broke one of the clips off of the factory wire. I have not had a problem with it comming off. Just in case though I put the broken pieces in the glove box if I need to temporarily fix it. I am going to get Splitfires in the near future.

The answer to your question about wire size is that bigger is not always better. I could make a wire that is 10mm but if it has crappy wire and insulation it's a big joke. If you want good wires look at whats on the inside, thats the important part. Just my 2 cents.

So are you saying with factory wires I'll be ok? and do the aftermarket wires have clips?

Thanks

Thanks Jeff, are you using those wires? if so how are they?

Are there any other wires (aftermarket) that have clips?

Yea, I've had the Splitfire wires on my 95 for about 1 year now. They seemed to help when I put them on, it idled smoother, started easier, and seems to be quicker. I also installed Bosch Platinum +4's at about the same time, as well as the Gibson cat-back anf the KKM air filter system. I did this all when the truck had about 40k miles on it. I was trying to get more power for towing my boat...these mods helped but not really enough, there's no substitute for cubic inches! I'm looking at Expeditions now.

well, i finally got the splitfire duel cores...i just ordered them from jcwhitney. where can i find some bosch platinum +4's?
i'd like to order them today also if possible...thanks for the help

I got my bosch +4's at Autozone,at 5.99 ea.
They had them in stock at the store. They did make a difference, idle is smoother, faster starting,I feel they and the splitfre
wires put a little more zip in my explorer.

I got my SPLITFIRE WIRES yesterday and it was the wrong one, it did not have the clips and it was a female. I was so excited that I got it, but it was the wrong one. Now I have to send it back and wait for them to replace it.... just bored and B******. :-)

Turner55,

Don't hold your breath on overnight from JC Whitney. I just ordered a set for another vehicle thru them 2 days ago, and from what I read on their website, they are drop-shipped from the factory...JC Whitney does not stock them. They just take the orders and turn them in to the manufacturer. The item number on th wires ends with an "F" which means they ship from the factory and were not available as next day or even second day. Check out this link and read the second line "Factory Shipping Orders" http://www.jcwhitney.com/shippingrate2.jhtml;$sessionid$4T1FPAQAAAKMNWBBJB2SKTQ

I have Magnacor wires and they have 1 clip. The wires that I replaced had 2 clips (were there when I bought the truck 7 months ago). I have the Magnacor 8.5mm wires and I like them, but they may be more money than really worth it. YMMV.

So it looks like splitfire wires are pretty good and have clips, thanks guys that help's alot. Any complaints with the factory wires? I bought factory wires less than a year ago and I'm wondering if I'll be ok until it's time to change them and go with Splitfires or should change them now and should feel a big difference?

Thanks

I installed a set of Split Fire wires and Bosh 4+ plugs this weekend. I must say a very noticeable difference. They too had one clip per wire. I will say that the forward passenger side wire/plug was the toughest to get out.
