Hello everyone! I'm kind of new to the forum but have a few questions for my cooling system replacement. This was originally meant to be just the radiator, fan clutch, and blade. I realize now I need to do the water pump and heater hoses. My question is can you really ruin the timing belt when replacing the water pump and are the heater hoses as easy to replace as the radiator hoses. A few guides have implicated as much and I was wondering if that's true and what kind of precautions I should take.

Different vehicles have different applications. Your 93 doesn't have a timing belt. The timing "chain" is inside the engine block and will be unaffected by the water pump change. The heater hoses are easily accessible, especially when you remove the intake air duct. There is one hose end that's tucked in behind the alternator, but it's not too bad. I replaced my water pump, thermostat, radiator and heater hoses not too long ago. The job will be made much easier if you remove the fan AND shroud first.

Remove the two bolts on the top of the shroud. Next, you put a radiator fan specialty wrench, or a regular large wrench (1 3/16 inch I think) on the big fan nut, then put a small 9/16" wrench on the pulley bolts right next to the big nut, the big nut should break loose fairly easily. Pull the big wrench to your left as you are facing the engine (facing aft), and keep the pulley from slipping and rotating with the small wrench. The fan and shroud should lift out together.

On some other vehicles, the timing belt must be removed to get to the water pump, but not the 1st generation Explorer.

Thanks so much for the reply! That's exactly the answer I was looking for. I have everything apart and just don't want to cause any undo harm by putting in a replacement part.
