Well, I finally made it up here to Washington State, and have finally decided to settle here after my little "trial" period. However, I need to get state plates now, and this will mean I will need to get a smog test, however, when I was moving, I had to have the Tailpipe removed because it was clanging around on the real axle after a nice bump in Kansas City.

First thing I'm wondering, I still need to have a tailpipe installed, is this necessary for emissions testing? I went to one with my ex-room mate, and they used this rod thing stuck up in the tail pipe, as well as some other thing connected to the gas cap. I know I could pay for a waiver or whatever to skip the whole thing all together, but I don't think I want to.

Second off, the truck still has the original exhaust on it that it had out of the factory, and chances are because of that, I may have to get the whole thing replaced, how bad is that going to cost, and does anybody know any decent, honest shops in Everett to go to to get this done. Half the reason is I'm toying with possibly replacing the exhaust with a Flowmaster system eventually. But currently, since I've been working on getting work, I'm on a tight budget. I don't want to take any chances of them pulling the ol' $1000 sham on me at some shop telling me that this, that and the other is wrong just to wring all other money out of me that I don't have (I already had a hair "stylist" try that **** on me for $50, I'm not taking any chances on my truck).

The flowmaster kit is about $200 and you can put it on and clamp it together in your driveway.

I paid about $300 for a new Cat, pipes, and muffer installed from a local shop on our '92.. Soo, it shouldn't be too expensive to have a shop fix what is actually broken on yours..

I just bought my stuff yesterday.

An aftermarket Tailpipe without the Resonator ( small muffler looking thing) is about $50 from NAPA.
If you have the stock exhaust, however you have to buy the one with the resonator because the muffler is a different length and the one with the resonator wont fit.
That one is closer to $70.

Don't know how bad the Muffler is, sinse '93 I would guess it's bad too. A good one from NAPA is about $100.

Actually, given the experience, the muffler's not bad at all, actually, the truck is REALLY quiet when running despite not having a tailpipe. I'm just trying not to get reamed up the arse by a muffler shop. I might toy with the Flowmaster idea. The issue with replacing the tailpipe is I know it WILL have to be welded on as the original weld rusted through and broke, however, for some odd reason, the muffler itself has not rusted at all.....go figure. I'm going to go have a deeper look at it today.

For a 93', that ex is in darn good shape, I just spent $94 having an oil-change, and the only time I know the diff-lube has been replaced in 220,000 miles, and just replaced the dead original PCV valve as a precaution. Those guys I could see tried HARD to find ANYTHING they could charge me on, I expected worse.

I'm just not sure. The real issue is just the tailpipe here, and not the whole exhaust. I'm concerned because I don't want to go in for emissions just to fail because my car lacks proper "tubing".

They will not pass it if they can't put that sensor in the tailpipe.

I'm surprised the pipe is welded. I know on my '91, the tailpipe is welded to the Resonator. But that is because it is sold as one part. Te other side of the resonator ( where it hangs from the car) should be Clamped onto the muffler.

I dunno how ya'lls emissions standards are, but I got *****ed out by the inspection guy last week for having holes in the pipe, just in the tip. Apparantly they are afraid the exhuast will leak back into the car since its not all being dumped out at the tip. I plan to buy another flowmaster catback next week, solve that problem at least.
