i want to lift my 2nd gen 4x4 at least 4" cant remember what kind of 4.0 it has but its the one with "X" in the vin. i've read about superlift but 2 grand and someone told me that you still need to buy more parts and it could run well over $3,000. i know about TT and shackles which im not to fond of but willing to do along with a lift. i also came across people talking about swapping out a stock axle with a ranger one but im not sure what this does unless they sell more lift kits for rangers. my point is i know very little about lifting anything and would really like any opinion on the matter. i want to do some serous off roading along with safety on the road/highway.

please reply as im really wanting to lift it soon

Well the most common setup for lifting seems to be shackles with a tt and a 3" body lift which would allow you to run 33's. Safe for highway but you cant drive it like a sports car. Not sure why you would switch axles with a ranger other then to get a different gear ratio which can be done by swapping out explorer axles as well. X in the vin should be the OHV engine.

Unless someone was trying to tell you to do a solid axle swap (SAS) in the front. then you could really lift that guy up, but that can get expensive as well. you can search for it.

i have the superlift and i like it,
it got installed in 2 days. and that was at a leisurely pace, cause it had an added coilover kit too,
the kit comes with everything you need, ,

Hmm. I believe the bodylift alone usually takes about 2 days at a liesurely pace as well. If you got the money to blow i would go with the suspension lift in a heart beat. But $300 for 5 inch of lift is tough to pass up for sure. It all depends what you want out of your truck. If it barely ever leaves the black top the cheap route might be the best solution.

ok so i decide to do the 5 in lift. i think i've seen an explorer with the tt shackles and body lift and it looks good.

list
5 in lift, orange paint, black interior with rhino sprayed in the rear,16" black wheels (steel 5 hole) with orange lugs, 33x10's, grill guard or safari bar, rack with 2 lights, upgrade rotors and calipers, both head and tail lights

thanks again

Sounds like a solid plan. Be sure to post pictures for us once your done.
