questions for a newb

i have 91 xlt. currently repainting the interior.

i just wanted to add some kind of small system, so i need a little help,i have factory HU and when i got it had a 6 cd changer that hooked up to it. i know i probally cant keep same HU but if i dont have to get rid of the 6 cd changer it would be better, i want new door sidepanel speakers, and 2 10 subs if possible, so what am i going to need. lower prices the better. thanks for your help.

If yours is a 91 with a factory headunit, then the CD changer connects through an FM modulator and plays on an FM stereo channel. Am I right? If so, The CD changer will work with any aftermarket headunit. As for headunit, pick one you like, and I recommend one that has a sub control on it so you don't have to mess with crossovers on the amp. As for speakers, Polk EX, Infinity reference, and pioneer TS-6865 are all good cheap choices. Go listen to them and any other 5x7/6x8 they have at a stereo shop and see which one you like the best. Then find them on ebay and buy them to save money. As for tens, look on ebay for some JL 10w0. They are great subs and you can get them for $50-$75 a piece online. As for an amp, find something that is 2 ohm stable and puts about 100-300 watts into one channel. Just make sure it isn't Pyle, Pyramid, any of those crap brands.

CD player wil work. The crunch subs, they aren't very good, but will work. I again would suggest the 10w0 from JL. Cheap on ebay and In my opinion nothing better for the money. the power acoustic amps are always over rated. They don't put out near the power they claim. You could find the same stuff on ebay a lot cheaper. Look on ebay for a monitor too. You can get them a lot cheaper than that. Your DVD player will work great, but you have to buy an adapter for the sound to work with your headunit, $20. Avoid those speakers too. You can get Polks on ebay for $50-60, which are a lot better than those. Good luck.
