Questions on tires... Which one's and why...

I just got the long trails put on yesterday and so far they are good. Apperantly they were rated number 1 for on road suvs in Nov of 1999. I hope they are good tires.

Two words... PIE RELLI

I know it's not your daily driver, but my Pirelli Scorpion ATs have been a dream on and off road. The compound is really soft. Thus, the grip like crazy, but they do tend to wear faster on the road. AND they're almost half the price of big name tires. (Buy two sets of Pirellis and get the tread life of a Micheline for about the same price.)

My 235/75's cost me about $88 a piece back in 98. I think they're up to about $100 now.

Dig this testimonial:

I went wheelin' with a buddy. He had a STOUT FJ40 cruiser with 33" BFG mudders. I had my stock Ex with stock sized Scorps. We were in 12" plus snow, and he couldn't pull the hills that I could. His tires just wouldn't bite the snow and mind did.

They stick like glue to rocks (wet or dry) and I've basically raped the sidewalls with out any problems. (My raised white letters are not white and are barely raised.)

The only thing I can think of that would be a problem would be real sticky mud (like Attica). We don't get that up here in the Rockies though.

I bought mine from Discount Tire and got the full road hazard (that covers trail damage) and free rotation and balance for ever. They have a great looking tread pattern, built in siping, and come in a couple of weight ratings. (Go with the heavy rating to get thicker side walls).

They've changed their web site. They used to have a full spec chart, but I can't find it now. I know you can get 30/9.5 (my next purchase), 33/12.5. I think they have a 32/10.5 too. You might look into the mud version, but I don't think it will do better than the ATs.
