I have a factory radio with Sirius and I have a question regarding the thick orange cable behind the radio
SSPX0064.jpg

The orange cable was installed on the far left side. Is that cable the Sirius antenna cable?

If not where is the Sirius cable located?

I'm new to the explorer family so I appreciate all of your help and patience.

That is the antenna cable

I believe that is the cable going to the antenna. I believe some of the sirius and xm receivers use a direct fm modulator which attaches through the antenna wire. What does the sirius receiver look like?

Not sure, in a previous thread I asked about the tuner and it seemed like it was built in to the HU.

After taking it out it seems that one of the harnesses goes to the tuner located somewhere else.

I bought a new tuner but I would really like to utilize the existing one. It seems like I should be able to but I can't seem to find the answer to it.

Ooh, ooh, I know this one!!!

That cable is just for the FM antenna. I had to get an adapter from Crutchfield to replace my HU.

The Sirius antenna is connected directly to the Sirius receiver which is mounted behind the right kick panel on the passenger side.

You Rock! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.\

One final question though, does anyone know if that tuner/receiver can be utilized whith the new radio? Or am I stuck using the new tuner? I would think if I map each wire I can probably use it with the new radio?

I don't know for sure but I would say no only because your new HU will not only have to pick up the signal but it will also have to show the channel information and control the channels. I noticed it the electronics stores that there are separate Sirius receivers for Alpine or Pioneer or others. There must be a format issue. Probably not worth the risk or effort for an item that costs between 60 and 100 bucks.

That makes sense, if you could interchange receivers then all you would need is an adapter cable instead of manufacturer specific receivers. And your comment on it not being worth the risk or effort made the most sense of all ;-).

I was just trying to save my six free months of Sirius. Maybe I'll give them a call and plead my case. I'll post the results of that. Thanks to everyone who helped out. My install came out great and I will pop in the sirius this weekend.
