ok so i went out to reset my computer because i am in a much higher elivation before and the explorer was not doing quite as well as it did before i moved. so went to reset the computer unhooked battery cables looked at my positive and there was a big crack in the connector....is this common? and i get the joy of replacing battery cables positive and negitive is there a better way to do it than ford has? and when i hooked my battery back up my dome light came on then i tryed to start it and it sounded like it was a dead battery. and the lights would not come on any idea on the best way to approach this. i guess cabels are easy enough and battery but is there anything else i should check?

Some people replace the cables. I would go to Autozone and get a set of battery connectors. Cut the old connector off, cut back the insulation and attach the new ones.

Also if you don't have one, pick up a batter post cleaner. When you attach the new connectors to the battery they should not twist on the post.

your newer problem sounds like a bad ground cable...

save yourself some headache and spend the money for the cables....those cut and installs are a temporary fix and will induce corrosion in the cable themselves...;)

aw, don't go there...;)

schmidlkofer, you can go cheap or you can do it inexpensively and correct...save yourself some time from trying to figure out later, battery, alt, voltage regulator's and other misc. speratic problems...

well im got some thing so i can try to splice into the cabels if that does not work ill just get all new cables and call it good. they are like 23 bucks a piece....

black goblin just got a negative cable for 14 bucks with tax at kragen...aka shucks and i believe they are still in colorado...

well ill see what i can to. i just need to make it run. i have some poeple interested in it and i told them ill make it run by tomorrow and they can pick it up a few days after if they want it so i can get the cables done correctly... i cant find a place with oem cables. i may have to make my own....any one know of write ups or should i just do what i can.

are you getting rid of your truck??? if so, then go get the connectors or a cable from a parts store...don't try just splicing in then you won't know if your fix is the problem or not....

btw, they are not getting my extra hubs are they??? :(

lol i never did get the warn hubs. sorry. is there any junk yards around you? if not i may be able to find one close to me to pull some for you.....and im pretty sure its the cables cause there is a rather large crack that i can see through almost....so ill try to splice and if not ill get the factory cables

lol, don't worry about me and hubs, i've got spares i can take off my other truck...

but please, call your local parts stores, kragen, autozone, etc... and see what the price is for a new cable...they do have them in stock, lol...

ill look for a kragen....none of the places here have them in stock i called around. they said it will be a 4 days or more for me to get them....
