Quick question about high test gas

old mechanic said:
Al, is that because you are running a Apten chip?

It was before I had a chip.

I tested various brands and octanc ratings on long highway trips. In a nutshell, there was no difference in starting, power otr mileage.

If any one here knows about Explorer MPG's it is Al

hmmm,

it surely made a difference in my explorer, and even my t-bird when i had it, got terrible mileage on premium

I have now been running 87 octane for about 2 weeks. My X runs much better and has better gas milage than it did with the 93. Turns out I was indeed being "wasteful". Oh well, live, learn and get flamed.

The ONLY time I notice a performance difference with 91 is when I flip the little switch on my Apten chip to the 91 program.

I can't wait till I swap my intake manifold gaskets so I can run 87 octane again. The only benefit of 93 is it pings less if you are getting detonation. However, there is usually something else causing detonation and 93 is only a bandaid for the problem. Stick with 87 and good luck...
