the firewall towards the tranny. It is a hard line coming of the distribution block....I discovered it rattling and was wondering what it went to? Tranny? Frankly, I cannot see where it goes and was just going to let it go but then thought...WTF?

Hmmm that is what i thought, although if it were loose, I assume I would have a performance issue....? In any event, knowing this I will look further....i have no idea what that infernal rattling it makes is, but at least I have a start!!! Thanks!!

Yep, vacuum modulator. The line has several clips that keep it from rattling and one hold-down bolts to the upper intake manifold.

Without this vacuum line connected, your vacuum modulator will not function and your 1st-2nd gear shift will occur at an unusually high RPM, if at all.

Yup, and after reading these posts yesterday, I started th Explorer and the shifting started to fail! Kind of like until I actually knew what it was, the Explorer ran fine but is not giving me the ..."time to fix me" signal....anyway, it started shifting badly as arco777 indicated, then cleared up, so I will tackle the job soon......thanks!:salute:
