what is the stock wheel size and tire size for a 1996 explorer limited? and is it cheap and reasonable if i am trying to eventually have 33's to just get new tires and mount them on the stock wheels? any ideas?

A stock wheel is 15x7 or 16x7. If you're going up to 33.. I would go 15x8 or 16x8 if you're going to a 33x12.5x1* but if your going to find something with more narrow like a 33x11.5 or 33x10.5 if you can find them, the stock rims will work.

Something to keep in mind: I was told that you probably shouldn't go higher than a 31" tire without a lift kit. I have a 96' sport and if you have the eddie bauer, chances are you have the same 16" rims.

my brothers 98 limited is a 15x7 rim- and i dont even think you can fit a 31" tire in there without a lift. do you have the 235/75/15 tires? if so- that 31's gonna be a squeeze. (my 32's are bigger than his wheel-well)

It is UNreasonable to put 33 inch tires on your stock wheels. What happens is it stretches the sidwall too much and causes irregular wear (the center of the tire wears down way faster than the outside) and it would look kind of odd. Pretty sure they are harder to balance too. Go with a cheap 15x8.

you can fit 31's stock..you need a lift if you want to go any bigger..if you have air ride i can show you hot to get 3-4" of lift for free

As usual......................it is about width-to-height ratio, not just height.

You can put 33x10.5s on your 7" wide wheels all day long.
